Getting Your House Ready For The Holidays?

by Bernard Jennings

Will your house be the place where out of town company will stay? Maybe you are also planning to host holiday events? Or, it might be that you just want your house thoroughly cleaned before you set out all of your Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations. No matter the reason that you're getting your house ready for the upcoming holidays, do you already have a plan of action to accomplish that?

If you already have a plan, then you don't need to read any further. However, perhaps you're still in the planning stages of thoroughly cleaning your house. If that's the case, from doing many of the chores yourself to arranging for carpet cleaning services, here are some ideas that might be of help to you.

Make A Plan For The Work You'll Do - Of course, if your spouse and your children can help, that will certainly be a big help, won't it? Maybe you'd rather get the house cleaned while your children are at school and while your spouse is at work. If you decide to do the cleaning yourself, choose a day or a few days to do that and actually mark those days on your calendar. By doing so, you won't schedule any other activities.

If you'll be cleaning the entire house in just one day, get your cleaning supplies ready the night before so you won't waste time doing that on cleaning day. Besides getting the supplies together, write down a plan of action. You could list chores that need to be done in order of importance. For example, if you're having out of town company, you certainly want the guest bedroom and bathroom to be sparkling clean. If you're hosting holiday parties, then you'll want to pay extra attention to the living areas. Because bathrooms and the kitchen will be used constantly, you might want to save them for right before the events take place.

If you will be working on several days to clean your house, designate which jobs you'll do on each day. For instance, the bathrooms might be done on one day, the kitchen on another day, and so on.

Arrange For Carpet Cleaning Services - Save the carpets until everything else has been cleaned. And, think about hiring professionals to do the job for you. While you can certainly vacuum thoroughly, you are probably not able to deep clean the carpets the way professionals will do it. Not only will they have the training and the experience to do the carpet cleaning thoroughly, but they'll also have state-of-the-art cleaning equipment that will clean the carpets so well that they'll look like new.

Do you also need your upholstery cleaned? If so, the same service that cleans your carpet will more than likely also do upholstery cleaning. The same goes for your tile floors or wooden floors. Find out what the carpet cleaning business offers and then decide how much money you can spend on each job. You might choose to get the carpets cleaned now and then do the other floors after the holidays.

Once your carpets have been cleaned, think of setting up a schedule for the cleaners to return to your house periodically.
